Review by Theo Well, I was in Tracks the other day and saw this on the shelf, and just couldn’t resist. I really didn’t know what to expect with this album, coz I have never managed to get into one of their gigs, and Rhythmic Slammish really didn’t have that much going for it (I rekon I’ve only listened to it through twice) – that said, most of that is simply because of the really tinny recording. I probably really only grabbed it to support a local band… but by God am I happy I did!! I’ll start off with the look of the overall package, it is REALLY well done (especially when compared to their last effort). The cover art suits it very well, and the picture on the back is just plain cool (the same as their pic on metal archives). As a whole it is just a really professional looking CD, there isn’t much of a booklet, but that doesn’t matter when it comes down to it. The CD is just plain awesome. Every song just grooves and grooves, it is a hefty dose of slam indeed. The drumming and riffs all work great together, and every song is catchy as fuck, and I love it…. and then you get the vocals. To say they are amazing is an under-statement… Big Rick is fucking awesome. There are parts that even remind me of Devourment. I’d go into detail about each song and why it’s so damn cool, but I’m at work and don’t have it on me… but I don’t really need to anyway, coz I don’t think there is a single song on it that I don’t like. The DVD is a nice touch, the menus all look pretty, and that makes me glad. The picture is a bit blurry, and the sound lacks the balls that the CD has (again, it’s a little tinny – but that probably couldn’t be helped with the available equiptment), but as a freebie it is wicked value, and despite the quality it is still pretty entertaining. It runs for about an hour if I recall correctly. I’ll finish this about here, mainly because my wrists are getting pretty sore (I’m at work, and we have to stand and type) and I can’t think of much else to put in without the CD being here, but, in summory — This is an AWESOME album, I actually enjoy it more than the new Ruins album- in fact, I dare to say that this is my favourite CD to come from Tasmania since Scepter of the Ancients. The whole thing just flows through, and is super catchy and groovey. In fact, even Darcy enjoyed his listen to it at my place yesterday – and he isn’t a huge slam fan by any means. If you like good music, get this album!! posted on Dec 11, 2007
