Tasmania [Hobart] Vanth are a Tasmanian power, thrash and death metal band. In Etruscan mythology, Vanth was a demoness of the underworld with eyes on her wings that enabled her to see everything. She was omniscient, assisted people on their deathbeds and later came to represent justice. In art, she is often portrayed with snakes, torches and keys. Vanth?s first original song, ?Midnight Stalkers Howling at the Moon?, recorded in mid-2005, has been well received by the Tasmanian metal community and has been compared to the likes of the band Death. Vanth are currently working hard at rehearsing and writing more originals to develop repertoire for a live show, which they are looking forward to producing sometime in 2006. While ?Midnight Stalkers Howling at the Moon? is very death metal oriented, Vanth hope to achieve a sound that tastefully incorporates thrash and power influences as well in subsequent originals. Having taken on a variety of forms, Vanth was formed in approximately 2004 by vocalist Leah Armand, who, although favouring metal, is influenced by a variety of musical styles such as classical and jazz. She is a contemporary voice student at the Conservatorium of Music in Hobart. After many difficulties in recruiting committed members, particularly in the form of a drummer, the band began to come together in the latter half of 2005 when Patrick Neumayer joined on drums. Prior to this, Conservatorium guitar student Anthony Gilbert and bass player Toman Bradley had come on board. After replacing Paul Sharp, a co-writer of ?Midnight Stalkers Howling at the Moon?, with guitarist Bob Scott, the line up was complete. Vanth are excited about the prospect of unveiling more originals to showcase and further define their style in the coming year in the form of both recordings and live shows. Current Lineup:
